Find Your Furrever Companion

Every cat in our care has a story — and a second chance waiting. Our cats live in loving foster homes where their personalities shine, helping us match them with the perfect family.

Please read prior to filling out your application:

If you are thinking about adopting through us, please read the information listed below:

  • All pets within the applicants home MUST be up to date on core vaccines, as well as spayed/neutered (regardless of species). For cats, we also highly encourage the FVRCP vaccine which protects them from common upper respiratory viruses that they can pick up which include Feline Viral Rhinotracheitis, Calicivirus, and Panleukopenia.
  • We ask that you pay our $5 application fee. This ensures that you are ready for a kitten or a cat and so we can fully process your application.
  • If you do not have any pets within the home and are wanting to adopt a kitten, we highly recommend that you consider adopting a pair as kittens are very social and strive to have a companion. Kittens can end up with Single Kitten Syndrome, a behavioral disorder that can lead to inappropriate biting, destruction, elimination issues, and more. Kittens learn how to “cat” from other feline companions. Our organization gives a discount to those that adopt two kittens. Because of the possibility of Single Kitten Syndrome, our organization will not adopt out a kitten less than 5 months of age as a Singleton. They must go in pairs. If you decide that this isn’t something you are able to do, we will work with you on finding the perfect kitty for your family.

*Please take these things into consideration before deciding on adding a pet to your family*

Adoption Process

1. REVIEW INFORMATION ABOVE

We want to make sure our cats are going to the best suitable home. While some cats may be a good option for your home, others may not work as well depending on the cat's personality. When considering adoption, please know that you are making a lifetime commitment. It can take weeks to even months for cats and kittens to adjust in a new home. Remember the 3-3-3 rule when introducing a new cat or kitten into your home. Slow introductions is a MUST!

2. APPLICATION FEE

We ask that you pay the $5 application fee via our PayPal or Venmo. Please refer to our donations section of the website to go to the links. If you don't have the ability to use these payment options, send us an email at info@furreveraftercats.org. The $5 application fee ensures that applicants are truly ready to adopt their new feline friend. Our team is 100% volunteer based and we work very hard to ensure to applications are processed smoothly.

3. APPLY

If you feel that adopting is the right choice for you, please fill out an adoption application shown below.

4. PROCESSING YOUR APPLICATION

Once we've received your application, we will then start processing your application by contacting your vet and personal references. Please take note that applications can take up to 3-7 business days to fully process your application. Please be patient with us as we only have a small number of volunteers that are processing applications at this time. If your personal references cannot be easily contacted, this can postpone your application. Please ensure that your references can be easily contacted.

5. HOME VISIT

Once your application is approved, we will then set up a virtual home visit via Zoom or Facetime. During the home visit, we have you show us where the cats/kittens would be getting acclimated at. This is an opportunity to also ask any questions you may have about the cat or kitten(s) you are interested in.

6. MEET AND GREET

After the home visit is complete, we will then set up an in-person meet and greet with a day and time that works best for you and our foster. With our meet and greets, we typically will meet at the fosters home or if we have an adoption event taking place, we recommend attending that event to meet our adoptable cats and kittens.

7. FINALIZING THE ADOPTION

As long as the meet and greet goes well, we would then finalize the adoption. During the finalization, you will then sign our adoption contract. From there, we would provide you with all of the veterinary paperwork for the cat or kitten you are adopting.

What does an adoption include?

All cats and kittens go home fully vetted which includes spay/neuter, up to date on Rabies and FVRCP vaccines (including booster vaccines for younger kittens), dewormed, flea treated, tested for FIV/FeLV, and are microchipped.

What is Single Kitten Syndrome?

Single Kitten Syndrome is a behavioral disorder seen in young kittens when they are adopted out as Singletons. Kittens can begin showcasing behaviors such as biting, being destructive, having inappropriate litter box habits, and more. This is why we strongly recommend adopting two kittens if you do not own any other cats in the home.
